How to get to the Hūnua Traverse

Located 45km south-east of Auckland’s CBD, we recommend utilising public transport to get to the trail head in Clevedon Village. If you choose to drive, please make note of where to park your car.

By bike

You can arrive at either end of the Hūnua Traverse route via bike.

From Auckland

We recommend riders utilise the official Tour Aotearoa route, which takes you out past Auckland Airport.

The Google based map is available here

Alternatively you can catch the ferry from downtown Auckland (see details below) and connect to Clevedon via the paths and roads of Beachlands, Maraetai and Umupuia.

From the Waikato

Use the dedicated cycle trails on the Hauraki Rail Trail to take you to the trail head in Kaiaua – www.haurakirailtrail.co.nz

By car

If arriving by car we recommend you park in the following locations:

Clevedon

Park right on the Hūnua Traverse route along Clevedon- Kawakawa Road. Toilet facilities are located at the Clevedon Hall and coffee and snacks can be purchased from a range of food retailers within the village.

Visit www.clevedon.co.nz

Kaiaua

The Trail Head is located opposite the famous Pink Shop. Adjacent to the trail head, approx 200m up the coastline, you’ll find toilet facilities and ample off-road carparking.

Connect and exchange vehicles with others using Trail Sharing

The Hūnua Traverse is excited to partner with new locally-developed digital platform Trail Sharing helping riders and hikers sort the transportation logistics of end-to-end trails across NZ. Click here to find out how a Trail Share enabled vehicle exchange can help you make the most of your Hūnua Traverse ride.
