Hūnua Traverse full closure: July – October (dates TBC)
The Hūnua Traverse (and the entire Hūnua Ranges Regional Park) will be fully closed for several weeks between July and October. This is for a planned pest control operation by Auckland Council, using biodegradable 1080 bait to help protect our precious native wildlife and forests.
The park will stay closed until all tracks have been fully cleared, and even after reopening, a caution period will apply for several months. Dogs won’t be allowed in the area for at least six months post-operation.
In the meantime the Hūnua Traverse remains open end-to-end weekends & public holidays.
We’ll keep our website and socials updated with closure dates and duration once they’re confirmed (the bait drop requires a window of fine weather) – please always check the trail status before you ride.
Camp Adair Sunday Shuttles Returning in Spring!
After an awesome summer and autumn season, we’re stoked to confirm the YMCA Camp Adair Sunday Shuttles will be back in spring when the Hūnua Ranges Regional Park reopens. This has been a fantastic fundraiser for the YMCA Camp Adair team and their ‘Send a Kid to Camp’ initiative.
A big thanks to everyone who joined us last season – the feedback has been super positive. And a shout-out to Hallertau Clevedon for hooking our riders up with a free beer, the perfect way to celebrate conquering Auckland’s highest ride.

Descend with Care – Mangatangi Hill
A quick safety reminder: Beware the Mangatangi Hill descent.
We’ve recently installed some new signage to remind riders & drivers to Descend with Care on A.R.A Drive (aka Mangatangi Hill Road). Mangatangi Hill is a punchy combo: steep gradients, blind, off-camber corners, patches of loose gravel, and the chance of oncoming traffic. Plus, there’s no cell phone service in the valley, so if something goes wrong help could be a while away.
Please Descend with Care and consider carrying a PLB (personal locator beacon) or a cell phone with an SOS feature when you’re riding the Traverse. Your future self will thank you.
