Third partial closure of Hūnua Traverse scheduled for 24/25 August

August 22, 2023

Following two partial closures over the past fortnight, a third closure will be in place within the Hūnua Ranges Regional Park on Thursday, 24 August and Friday, 25 August 2023.

While closures are not typically anticipated to occur this frequently, it serves as a good reminder to always check the Hūnua Traverse website before you ride.

This third short-term closure is for operational purposes and again impacts the Southern Preview, which will be closed along Mangatangi Hill Road (aka ARA Drive) between Upper Mangatawhiri Valley and Workman Road.

The closure will be in place for 48hrs from Thursday, 24 August at 6.00 am to Saturday, 26 August at 6.00 am. All public access to Mangatangi Hill Road (aka ARA Drive) will be prohibited. This includes all roads and tracks in the Lower Mangatawhiri Valley, including horse riding and mountain biking trails.

Where can I ride?

– Waterline Road – access from Upper Mangatawhiri Valley (Moumoukai Road)

– The Hūnua Traverse Northern Preview also remains open with access via Moumoukai Hill Road (note, Otau Mountain Road should be avoided on weekdays due to logging operations).

OPlease contact the Hunua Ranges Regional Park Duty Ranger on 09 301 0101 should you have any concerns.
